SPCA Donation Drive
*DON'T BUY, ADOPT*
Tis' the season of giving! Lock+Store, together with Society for the
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), is urging Singaporeans to
consider adopting abandoned animals instead of buying them from local pet
farms.
In 2010, SPCA took in 7,597 animals, which is an average of 600 unwanted
animals each month. Last year, only about 100 abandoned animals were
adopted each month.
To encourage more widespread animal adoption, Lock+Store has launched a
series of postcards modelled by abandoned animals at SPCA. Each postcard
features a dog, cat or a small animal currently at the shelter and their
details are on the back of the postcard.
"Animals are not objects that you just store away. Buying more animals
will only encourage animal breeders to increase the supply of puppies,
kittens, hamsters, rabbits and guinea pigs on the market, while an ever
growing numer of abandoned pets waste away from neglect. We want to get
the community rethinking about animal adoption instead of buying," says Ms
Helen Ng, Chief Executive Officer of Lock+Store.
The photographs were taken by Lock+Store's Manager and photography
enthusiast Mr David Loo.
Help spread the word and give abandoned animals a new lease of life by
purchasing a set of postcards at Lock+Store's facilities in Chai Chee and
Tanjong Pagar, and at selected retail outlets. A set of five
postcards cost $5.
